About Us - Enigma at UCLA

Our Mission

From casual game nights to tournament-style competitions, from learning the basics of Dungeons & Dragons to exploring the streets of LA, Enigma provides a community for you to participate in a gaming and social experience while making lifelong friends along the way. We include everyone from undergrads to graduate students and alumni. If you're interested in board games, tabletop games, or anything nerdy (even just a bit), you're always welcome with us. There is no formal membership, so drop by any time! Students, staff, faculty, and local community members are all welcome!

Our mission is to create an inclusive space where players of all experience levels can gather, learn, and grow together. We believe that the best games happen when diverse perspectives come together around the table, creating memorable experiences that extend far beyond the final score.

Kaiwen Xiao

As you may guess from their majors, Kaiwen loves to analyze and scrutinize everything, from winning strategies in all sorts of games to how to best live life. You're most likely to encounter them playing board games, enjoying food with good company, or staying up way longer than they should be. Really though, the best way to be introduced to her is to talk to her directly; she's quite friendly and eager to get to know you!

Originating in San Diego County, Ash ventured to UCLA as a transfer in the fall of 2024. In their first days there they found Enigma, and with it, a community. With a penchant for conversing with others ad nauseam and a rather strong stomach, they can often be found talking with friends about a litany of topics.

Once upon a time, Kieran joined the Enigma Discord server to livetweet their ongoing Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough. Now they devour rulebooks and devise programming for all those gorgeous, inventive TTRPGs that have never had the fortune of being popularized by Stranger Things. If you see him prancing around, pose some kind of buffoonish hypothetical — he's really into that sort of thing.

Maeve is an enthusiastic biochemist who loves nothing more than Enigma except sidequesting. He loves meeting new people and finding out what kind of games they're into. When Maeve isn't having fun building tiny lego sets, she loves to lounge on the Tongva Steps or bedazzle random objects. This is Maeve's second year as librarian and they hope to make it even more fun, so keep an eye on #books for book club meetings and info.

Leil loves art, traditional and digital, and frequently uses her creative powers for ~~evil~~ drawing silly girls in love and game jamming. When she isn’t glued to her sketchbook or tablet, catch her drinking boba, stress-crocheting, or midway through another Agatha Christie novel. She loves meeting people and finding new hyperfixations, so feel free to come talk to her!
